Frequently Asked Questions
What is Exodus WildSchool?
Exodus WildSchool is a fully immersive, faith-based nature education collaborative program that blends homeschooling with outdoor exploration. Established in 2021, our mission is one where we strive to nurture the growth of the whole child by offering paths into nature, & allowing children to lead the way in their own education.
Our hands-on curriculum is designed to help children explore their interests in a natural environment, fostering a deep connection to creation and the Creator. Guided by skilled Wild Rangers and Campus Leaders, students engage in activities like building shelters, creating plant medicine, learning survival skills, tracking wildlife, and creating nature-inspired art, all while developing a sense of community and belonging.
What is the difference between the in-person campuses, and the online memberships?
Here’s a quick breakdown of our options!
-
Exodus WildSchool: This is our traditional in-person option where students & families meet regularly on a set schedule, led by a hand-picked Campus Leader. We offer two semesters per year for an immersive, group-based experience.
-
Exodus WildCrew - Tribe: This is for small groups or co-ops that want to bring Exodus’ curriculum into their own community. Families can either incorporate the curriculum into their existing group or start a new Tribe with a Tribe Leader, using our full program.
-
Exodus WildCrew - Families: The perfect choice for individual families who want to use Exodus’ curriculum at their own pace, on their own time, at locations they choose—bringing the forest school experience right to their home or favorite outdoor spots.
Each option offers flexibility and the same amazing nature-based learning, so no matter which you choose, your family is in for a great experience!
What does a typical day at an in-person Exodus WildSchool Campus look like?
A typical day at Exodus WildSchool begins with a warm welcome and a moment to gather as a group, having Bible devotions and prayer time as a group. From there, our Forest Scouts (students) dive into hands-on, nature-based activities led by our Campus Leaders, like tracking animal prints, building shelters, or foraging wild plants for food or medicine. There’s plenty of time for exploration, group challenges, sharing stories, and quiet moments to connect with God’s creation. Every day wraps up with reflection and sharing, helping students process their discoveries and celebrate their growth! You can see more about what our in-person forest school days look like, here.
What happens in case of inclement weather on a forest school day?
We go (safely) outdoors anyway!
At Exodus WildSchool, we embrace the outdoors in all kinds of weather, as long as it’s safe for our students! Forest school is designed to provide learning experiences regardless of rain, snow, or sunshine. If conditions are too extreme or unsafe, we modify the day's activities to ensure safety and comfort.
Parents at our in-person campuses will be notified in advance if there are any significant changes to the schedule due to weather, such as moving the activities indoors or rescheduling. We encourage children to dress in layers and bring waterproof clothing when necessary, so they’re ready for whatever nature brings their way!
What age groups is the program designed for?
Our in-person campuses welcome children ages 4 to 15, with activities tailored to different skill levels. Older students have the opportunity to take on leadership roles, guiding and mentoring younger peers, which fosters a sense of responsibility and community. At the same time, younger students spark curiosity and wonder in older participants, rekindling their connection with nature.
Our online WildCrew membership is also designed to accommodate mixed-age groups, making it a great fit for families or small co-ops! Students of all ages benefit from our program... from as young as 2 years old, up to 102!
Do parents need to stay on-site at in-person Campuses, or is it a drop-off program?
At our in-person campuses, a parent is required to stay on-site with their child for each forest school day. This creates a supportive community where families can share in the learning experience and connect with one another while children explore and grow! Parents can observe, participate, or simply enjoy the natural setting alongside their children.
WildCrew Tribes may vary.
What subjects does this curriculum cover?
Is this a daily curriculum?
It’s really up to you! Our curriculum is designed as a rich, weekly experience that adds depth and adventure to your homeschooling journey. You can spread the activities out to make it a daily curriculum if that works better for your family, but we recommend setting aside one day each week as your dedicated forest school day. It usually takes about 4–5 hours, depending on how many Scouts you have, and makes for a really special day together in nature!
Is there a trial period or way to visit, or view the curriculum before committing?
Yes! Starting in Autumn 2025, we will be offering Preview Days for our in-person campuses. These are special opportunities for interested families to come out and meet our Campus Leaders, experience our outdoor setting, and participate in a brief (1-2 hour) forest school session. This gives you a chance to see what a typical day looks like, ask questions, and get a feel for how our program works.
For our WildCrew online membership, families can sign up for a month-to-month membership. This allows you to explore the curriculum and community with no long-term commitment. If, after a month, you feel the program isn't the right fit, simply cancel your membership at any time.
We want you to feel confident and excited about your child’s journey with us, so we’re happy to answer any questions you might have!
