Cloud Watcher Badge: Exploring the Sky and Weather Patterns
The Cloud Watcher Badge is earned when your child learns to identify different cloud types, understand their role in the weather cycle, and predict weather by observing the sky. This badge celebrates your child’s ability to connect clouds to rain, storms, and the water cycle, as well as observe animal behavior in response to weather changes.
Your child will explore clouds like cumulus, cirrus, and stratus, learning how they form and what they signal about the weather. They’ll also distinguish between contrails (airplane condensation trails) and chemtrails (chemical trails), and understand their differences.
In addition, your child will observe how animals, including birds and squirrels, adjust their behavior based on upcoming weather—such as singing differently before a storm or foraging more actively before a cold front. They’ll also learn how weather affects the movement of wildlife and how to predict the behavior of animals as an indicator of weather shifts.
