It’s almost autumn! And with that sometimes comes a higher susceptibility to viruses/ colds etc. How do we mitigate our exposure and more easily manage fighting off illness AND boosting our immune systems in the process?

Enter: FIRECIDER.

First of all, let me tell you about the taste.

The odds that it will kick you in the teeth, are pretty high.
(Until you get used to drinking it on the regular.)

Second, INGREDIENTS MATTER.

We at Exodus Road always use and recommend *organic* ingredients for all of our concoctions, infusions, & deliciousness. (For us, that does NOT mean it has to be certified organic… we buy from reputable sellers and try to support local businesses/ folks as much as possible… and when we can’t find something we need right here around us, we expand our search to online organic sellers that meet our very high standards.)

Third, don’t be afraid to make this and drink it! You can’t really “screw up” FireCider.

Okay! Y’all ready to get started? Let’s GET HEALTHY!!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup fresh horseradish root, grated, chopped, or coined
  • 1/2 cup fresh ginger root, grated, chopped, or coined
  • 2 fresh jalapeno peppers, coined or halved and chopped
  • 1 medium yellow onion, peeled and chopped
  • 1 large lemon, juiced
  • 10 large cloves garlic, peed and crushed, or chopped
  • 1 tablespoon rosehips
  • 2 springs fresh, or dried, rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon organic turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorn
  • 2 teaspoon dried astragalus root, or 2 to 3 slices dried (optional)
  • unpasteurized apple cider vinegar (with “The Mother”)
  • 1/4 cup raw honey, more to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the roots, herbs, and lemon, placing the ingredients into a half-gallon glass jar.
  2. Next, add the unpasteurized apple cider vinegar, covering the ingredients by 1-inch of vinegar.
  3. Add the plastic lid to the jar and shake well. (If you’re using a metal lid, that’s fine! That’s what I use, too. Just put a piece of parchment paper or wax paper to keep the vinegar from touching the lid inside.)
  4. Store the jar in a cool dark location for a minimum of one month, shaking the mixture daily.
  5. Once thoroughly infused, place the cheesecloth on top of the glass jar, securing the cloth in place with a rubber band. Strain the fire cider vinegar into a glass bowl.
  6. Next, add the honey, mixing well until it has dissolved. Taste the fire cider tonic, adding additional honey if needed.
  7. Store the final product in a cool dark place, consuming as desired.

Notes:

  1. Jalapeno peppers can be substituted for habanero, serrano, or other spicy peppers. Ground cayenne pepper can also be added to this recipe.
  2. Substitute ground turmeric with 1/4 cup peeled fresh turmeric root.
  3. Lemons contain more vitamin C than oranges, however, oranges are a good substitution. Dried rosehips contain the highest level of vitamin C, use in place of, or in addition too, citrus fruit.
  4. Organic turmeric powder contains more curcumin than a non-organic item. Black peppercorn helps to allow the curcumin to absorb into the body properly.

That’s it! You did it! Add your comments below if you are making this amazingness; let us know how it turns out! GOOD JOB!
